"There is so much outdoor space for kids here - parks, the beach, fort mason. The library is great. And it’s super walkable! Everything we need is within walking distance. We love living in the marina! "

"I’m not a parent. Hard for me to say. But the neighborhood is safer than most and is walkable. Good school Claire Lilienthal - but hard to get into "

"I love how close it is to hop onto 101. I SUP in Sausalito so it’s so easy to zip over and get out of the city. The architecture is amazing and every building or home is so unique to its self. Marina Green, Yacht Club and East Beach all walking distance. "

"There are lots of young families but also lots of young recent college grads. You can walk from the beach to the boutiques on Union Street in 7 minutes."

"I hear if you take the 30x to and from FiDi it is super efficient. I drive to Pacific Heights every morning, and it only takes me 3 minutes. Parking is another story."

"Dog owners will love how many parks and green areas there are. But there are not free poop bag boxes around the neighborhood, and not many trashcans unless you're near a park."

"The Marina's unique spots include the Palace of Fine Arts—the only physical reminder of the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition—and Crissy Field, a relaxing, natural open space."

"The scenery is breathtaking, and there are parks within walking distance. The Marina Green is a great place to walk and get great shots of the Golden Gate Bridge, which you can walk across. The local retail stores are easy to get to, and mass transit is available to take you to the downtown area."

"I love my neighborhood because I am close to so many great amenities--Chestnut, Union, and Polk street are all within walking distance and great hubs for restaurants and bars. Fort Mason is a beautiful green space that overlooks the GGB, and, along with Crissy field, provides a great place to run, walk, or lounge with a good book. I love being close to the water and green space. Because of these things, this neighborhood feels more spread out than others in the city--not quite as claustrophobic, with wide sidewalks and less congestion. I also love the ability to shoot over the GGB to Marin and Napa. The Marina can be known for attracting some frat-stars and young party-goers, but there is a wide range of demographics and room for everyone. A peaceful place with an energetic undercurrent. "

"I lived at this spot for 2 years and i would get out and run around the Palace of Fine Arts or to the GG Bridge at least 3 times a week... If you're feeling like a long ride or run you can cross the bridge and head over to Marin or Sausalito. "

"I just moved to the neighborhood 2 years ago and love it ! It's a great mix of families, seniors and singles. I love to walk to Crissy Field which has a wonderful beach and take my dog to play on the Marina Green. Chestnut Street has great shopping and the area is pretty flat and highly walkable. It's fantastic for dogs as well."

We were initially apprehensive about starting a new school for our kid and about the public school system in San Francisco generally. We were pleasantly surprised and overall we are delighted. Our kid is very happy at school and comes home explaining all the exciting new things he did in school that day. Very dedicated teachers have many years of experience with very low turnover which you don't see in other public or private schools. More striking is the breath of enrichment activities outside of the classroom which keeps kids excited and involved, things like the outdoor garden classroom, school bunny rabbit, library, pe, frequent field trips, music, soccer and other parent-led teams. Parents are hyper-involved, with volunteers in the classrooms every day and very significant pta funding. The after school program is the best I've seen with a spot for every kid who wants it (fees apply), tons of organized group activities, play and snack time, and flexible scheduling. The facilities are amazing, rivaling the best private schools, with lots of outdoor space, new remodel/expansion and historic features. This is a BIG school but broken into two campuses so you get lots of resources and friends to play but not an overwhelming building or bureacuracy. This is also K-8 which brings continuity at a critical yet awkward time for pre-teens.
